17.5 The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck - book on tape, so I don't really count it, but I wanted to note it. - The perfect book for me to try out on tape. I have never read any of her stuff before, and I would probably not wade through this book in print at this point in my life. The reading was excellent and the story is wonderful.

17. 13 1/2 by Nevada Barr - This is not part of her mystery series, it's a stand alone. It's good, but not really as strong in my opinion. I had figured a twist out fairly early and I just do not think she writes this dark gritty stuff as well as so many others I enjoy.

16. Gregor the Overlander: The Prophesy of Bane by Suzanne Collins - The second in the series, I think as strong as the first. I whiz through these, bt really enjoy them.

15. Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins - This is a children's series she wrote well before The Hunger Games. Not as dark, but still darkish and really fun to read.

14. Holes by Louis Sachar - reread for me, read for mac. Loved it. A bit hard for mac in places and several things I had to connect for him and explain multiple times.

13. Fire Star by Chris D'Lacey - read for mac. Third in the series, I think. It is getting very confusing, this series. I liked the first one so much, but each one less and less.

12. The Burglar in the Library by Lawrence Block - I love Lawrence Block and this series is always a good read. This one was fun for me because I knew a lot of the references.
11. The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom - This would be considered schmaltzy, right? Don't care, loved it. I thought it was charming and lovely and a TRIUMPH OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT, ok, not really, but really nice read.
10. Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh - read for mac. I never read this as a child, so it was all new to me. My big take away was, I still don't like the East Side and I am pretty sure Harriet has Aspergers. Don't think that that means I didn't like it, I did and hope to read the follow up.
9. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See - This was a recommendation and borrow from a friend. Set in 19th Century China, a woman's story of women's life. I really enjoyed it.
8. Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer - Another read to mac, the third in this series. I think I need a break from this series, it is all starting to mush together in my head. Enjoyable.
7. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Hadden - Off the TBR shelf, which makes me very happy. I really liked it, and oddly related to the narrator quite a bit. It was a very fast read and hard to put down once I got going.
6. The Reader by Bernhard Schlink - I never saw the movie, but knew the basic premise. It's a very good read, quick and not hard at all. I could not remember who played the male part in the film, but thought while reading that Kate was really too young to play the female.
5. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - I had never read it. Totally prompted to read it by seeing the preview of the new movie. I was all "wha??!! That looks crazy exciting, I had no idea." I loved it. Not much more to say. It has made me decide I need a female dog to name Darcy Rochester.
4. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke - This took forever to get through. I read some of it aloud to mac and he read along while we listened to the rest on tape. It is a much larger book than he usually reads, but it was good to make him push through it and I did like the story. I think a few plot points were weak, and in such a long book I didn't like where they fell (on important areas). Not sure if we will read the follow-up book.
3. Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident by Eoin Colfer - Also second in a series, and also read to mac. I liked this one as well as the first, less explaining was needed and that left more room for story.
2. Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan - The second in the series. Read this to mac, built on the first, but I didn't like it as much. It did end on a better cliffhanger, though.
1. Let Them East Fruitcake by Melody Carlson - The second of the Holiday themed books I picked up on impulse from the library. This was just not good. I did not notice until I got home, but it is "Christian Literature" whatever that is. I guess this would have to be considered Christian Chic Lit.
